Villanova Booster Club Fund Raising Guidelines
Originated January 13, 2004
Latest Revision November 30, 2005
The Villanova Booster Club’s mission is to provide support
to the Villanova Athletic Program in a variety of ways. This
might include visible support at athletic events, sales of Concessions
and Spirit Wear, sponsorship of the annual sports banquet, and donation
of funds toward specific needs within the Athletic Program. Though
the amount of funds available will vary from year to year, the Booster
Club intends to establish some broad parameters to guide its decisions
for funding. The following assumptions and guidelines will
serve as a reference for Booster Club members and interested parties.
All requests from coaches should be sent first to the Athletic
Director who can then prioritize requests and provide input and
assistance to the Booster Club as it makes a decision about funding. The
Booster Club may choose to fund items in an order of priority that
is different from that proposed by the Athletic Director.
Members
of the Booster Club may also propose items for funding in addition
to the requests from coaches,
The Booster Club will likely look
more favorably toward requests that include some sort of matching
funds (either by the school, fundraising efforts by team members,
or parents of a particular team). Examples of this sort of
funding would include the purchase of the Tennis team ball machine
(half paid by the team), funding for Water Polo shot clocks (half
paid by the team), and funding for Soccer goal netting (partially
funded by a donation from parents). However, matching funds
are not absolutely essential in order to receive Booster Club funding.
It is the intent of the Booster Club to identify one highly
visible project each year where a certain portion of funding can
be directed. This
item might not be funded in one year, but a commitment would be
made to set aside funding for multiple years until the goal is
met. An example of a visible project partially funded by
the Booster Club was the outfield fencing for the Softball Field. There
may be years where a large visible item has not been identified
and the Booster Club will choose to fund only smaller items.
It
is assumed that the donations provided by the Booster Club are
for enhancements to the Athletic Program as contrasted
with core funding for essential items that are normally
provided by the school administration. A partial list
of school funded items (not intended to be comprehensive) might
include: staff salaries, fees for officials, tournament fees, transportation
costs, uniforms & warm-ups, athletic fields & courts, and
playing equipment (basketballs, bats, balls, etc.). Examples of
enhancement items that could be provided by the Booster Club might
include: training aids (batting cage equipment, strength training
equipment, skill training items), audio-visual equipment, scoreboards,
PA sound systems, bleachers, etc.
The Booster Club will always maintain a reserve of funds at the
end of each academic year to provide sufficient money to purchase
Spirit Wear for the new school year. A minimum of $4,000
should be retained.
